🔬 The PHA Manufacturing Process

Step 1: Sourcing Renewable Feedstocks

PHA production begins with sustainable, renewable resources including:

  • Plant sugars and starches: Derived from crops like sugarcane, corn, and other renewable plants
  • Plant oils: Sustainable vegetable oils from renewable sources
  • Agricultural waste: Farm byproducts and organic materials that would otherwise go to landfills

These renewable feedstocks provide the foundation for creating biodegradable materials without depleting finite resources.

Step 2: Fermentation

Microorganisms consume these inputs and produce PHA granules (or other products). In the case of PHA, this happens inside the cell – similar to how our bodies store energy.

Step 3: Extraction & Purification

The PHA is extracted from the bacterial cells and purified to create a high-quality biopolymer that's perfect for everything from paper coatings to pet products.
